As part of the Westminster Business School HR Conference on 21st May 2024 Michael Moran presented to a group interested in HR about career management. This was an opportunity for students to connect with experienced HR professionals and alumni through debating, networking and listening to talks from a range of presenters.
Michael’s session at the conference was an opportunity for students to discuss:
- Job search
- Confident career management for a successful future
- Concerns around career, personal brand and becoming a market savvy job candidate
They covered quite a lot of ground, looking at 10Eighty’s app Career Ladders and The Guide to Everlasting Employability, including:
- You will only have “work” if you have the skills and expertise the market requires
- Most people are looking for more than a job – meaningful work is what makes a successful career
- We want flexibility around where and when to work
Discussions centred on the Intelligent Career Model, proactive job search, the prerequisites for career success, personal brand and elevator pitch. Takeaways for participants were:
- Be proactive: have a career plan
- Understand what is important, what motivates you and what it is you enjoying doing
- Build a network, and get that network on message
- Think about your personal brand, aka what people will say about you when you are not in the room
Michael also made a presentation about using the Fuel50 platform which provides a software solution that helps employees to identify their dream job, and exactly what they need to do to get there.
He invited the audience to contact 10Eighty’s Hannah Jones to complete Fuel50 exercises and questionnaires and enjoy a free session with one of our career coaches.
Hannah organised sessions for eight people, six completed the Fuel50 process and four had feedback from a coach. Their feedback is interesting:
“I found my coaching session with Maria really valuable. The opportunity to ask questions and draw from her experience from her own career path was so helpful. It completely changed my mindset on how I want to approach my job search in the best way!”
“Everything is quite well explained in the Fuel50 report”.
“The coaching session with Maria Mann went well. She explained the insight report and answered some questions I had about employment. She was helpful overall”.
