Party Time!
Last week 10Eighty held their annual, now legendary, Christmas party. We love to celebrate and this year did it in style.
We kick-started the festive season by inviting a glamorous crowd of the great and good from London’s HR community to enjoy excellent wine, Christmas themed canapés, very short speeches (the best kind), good company and a string quartet of pupils from the Centre for Young Musicians. The Centre is one of two charities we are supporting this year alongside Barnardo’s, see below.
Our venue was The Shard, on the South Bank, which affords stunning views and buzzing atmosphere, the ultimate mix of sophistication and glamour. A 95-storey supertall skyscraper, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, standing 309.6 metres (1,016 ft) high, the Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, the tallest in the European Union, and the sixth-tallest in Europe. It is also the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom, after the concrete tower of the Emley Moor transmitting station.
As part of the fun we had a cartoonist working the room to record the party and put together a design for our 2019 Christmas card. James Mellor has had illustrations featured in Private Eye, The Sunday Telegraph, and the Design Thinkers Academy. His cartoons have been exhibited at House of Fraser, the Herne Bay Cartoon Festival and Art 4 Africa. In 2015 he live cartooned the Monte Carlo or Bust Rally for Lloyds of London. Do take a look at his site https://www.jamesmellorcreative.com/
A good time was had by all and if you didn’t make it to the party we look forward to catching up with you soon. Below are some notes about our charitable interests:
Centre for Young Musicians (CYM)
CYM believes music education should be available to all, irrespective of means to pay, privilege or chance and has enabled thousands of talented young Londoners to realise their musical dreams. Next year, CYM celebrates its 50th anniversary and its flagship ensemble, the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, its 70th in 2021. To mark these important anniversaries, it has launched Young at Heart, a fundraising campaign, to raise £1m, to give another 1,000 talented young Londoners the opportunity to access high quality music education over the next decade. 10Eighty is delighted to support this appeal.
Barnardo’s
Barnardo’s protect, support and nurture the UK’s most vulnerable children. They help hundreds of thousands of children, young people, parents and carers via their 1000+ services across the UK. They help children through the trauma of sexual abuse and exploitation. Barnardo’s provide support for young people in care – and they don’t forget about them when they leave the care system. Barnardo’s also amplify the voices of young people to influence Government on the issues that affect their lives, fighting their corner and making sure their voices are heard. The scale of what Barnardo’s do may be big and complex, but their aim is simple – to provide the best outcome for every child, no matter who they are or what they have been through.
We were thrilled to have made £1,000 for both charities through selling raffle tickets for a Wolseley Champagne Afternoon Tea hamper. Thank you all for your generosity.
