Dave Harrison on the London Marathon and workplace resilience

We caught up with Director and Co-founder Dave Harrison at London Olympia when we exhibited at the Learning & Development Show and spoke to him about his run in the London Marathon, his training and preparation and the run itself.

On the latter stages of the London Marathon Dave explained: “The crowds were amazing they really pulled you through…I set myself a target of about 3 and a half hours and finished in 3 hours 18 minutes, significantly better than I thought I was going to do.”

His run raised over £2000 for Cancer Research UK – a cause that is close to his heart, because it has affected so many of his friends and family.

He’d love to do the Manchester Marathon next year but as his wife is expecting triplets(!) at the end of the year this may prove to be a difficult juggling act. Watch this space for news on both events…

Dave went on to draw parallels between the preparation for his London Marathon to being a leader or employee in the workplace. To achieve success on the track or in the office you need to “break things into chunks”, reinforce positive messages and pace yourself in order to maintain health and wellbeing.

Michael has a degree in Economics, a MBA from Warwick Business School and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He holds an accreditation from the British Psychological Society for the use of psychometrics. Michael has completed the Fairplace Internal Accreditation Programme, the training element of which is externally recognised by the Association for Coaching. Michael Moran was until January 2012 Chief Executive of Fairplace and a main board director of Savile plc, the career and talent management consultancy. Fairplace is part of the Savile Group, an AIM listed plc. The Savile Group was placed 16th in the Sunday Times top 100 small companies in 2010.
