We wanted to let you know that our Director and rather fine athlete Dave Harrison is taking part in the London Marathon 2015 to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research UK – a charity that he’s personally supported for many years. Dave’s run at this world famous event is also part of a 10Eighty CSR initiative.
He explains why he is putting himself through a gruelling 26 miles plus around London on Sunday 26 April:
“I have family and friends who have had cancer, some of whom have lost their lives to it. This is heart breaking and I appreciate many of you will also have similar experiences yourselves. Cancer Research UK do much needed work in 4 main areas: helping prevent cancer, diagnosing it earlier, developing new treatments and optimising current treatments by personalising them and making them more effective.
I hope you agree this is both a worthy and appropriate charity to raise much needed funds for.”
It’s Dave’s first ever marathon and he knows it will be a real challenge, even though he’s been running for some time and when we’ve taken part in the JP Morgan 5.6K Runs has finished with highly respectable times.
However the marathon is the equivalent of more than seven 5.6K runs (26 miles 385 yards or 42 kilometres) and it was only in 2012 when he completed his first ever Half Marathon. So he’s been really increasing his mileage and running as far as 23 miles on his training runs alone. No small feat!
Dave’s target is to finish under 3 hours 45 minutes and his stretched target is 3 hours 30 minutes – we’ll let you know if he reaches his targets at the end of next month.
